The Cobalt compound used in jewelry is called Cobalt Chrome, which differentiates from other modern metals with its platinum-like appearance. Its bright white luster is its original solid color after finishing and thus will stay white and bright forever. It is harder and more scratch resistant than titanium, gold, silver and platinum. While not as hard as tungsten, Cobalt Chrome does not easily break, shatter or chip. Cobalt Chrome is totally hypoallergenic, and is often used in knee implants and hip joint replacements. Its long-lasting brilliant appearance, scratch-resistance and biocompatibility makes Cobalt Chrome an ideal material for wedding bands.
